Summary

I have been in the IT industry since 1994, and have worked on a variety of systems, including Novell, NT and Windows 2000. I have been using NT on a design and infrastructure level solidly since about 1996, and over the past year have moved on to Windows 2000. In my last two jobs I worked specifically on Windows 2000 in migration and 3rd level support roles. I have good understanding of Active Directory design and implementation as well as other new features in the Windows 2000 suite, such as DFS, PKI security, IPSec, NAT, dynamic DNS etc…

I have successfully migrated a medium sized multi site NT domain to pure Windows 2000, both servers and workstations, and also have thorough knowledge and experience with the MS Backoffice products Exchange and Systems Management Server (version 1.2 & 2.0). In my SMS roles, there has been the requirement to use SMS Installer to package applications for distribution, and more recently used Installshield’s Windows Installer Professional to package MSI applications for distribution.

I enjoy working with a team where clear objectives must be met with diligence and professionalism. Having worked for a number of financial institutions in the past, I feel comfortable operating in the fairly demanding environment of the banking industry.

Employment History

Cable and Wireless            26.02.01 – 30.03.01

Windmill Hill Business Park

3Rd Line support for the Windows 2000 web server farm. Cable and Wireless host the sites for all Government Departments and have been in the implementation stage for the last 6 months for the Government Gateway project. They are using server clustering technology for redundancy in a hard security and highly available network environment. Using NetIQ, HP Openveiw and MS Security Console for regular system monitoring duties. They are using SQL 2000 for all their databases and MS ISA server for proxy / firewalling.

D&R Henderson 01.11.99 – 29.12.00

106-108 Ham St

Windsor

Employ 400 people nationally and have offices in every state. During my time at Henderon’s, I upgraded their IT systems to the current industry level, including registering the company internet domain name and setting up the Internet e-mail relay server, building and configuring the Exchange servers, setting up RAID 5 on all NT servers, implementing a self updating anti-virus program using Network Associates ME, implementing the new backup strategy using Backup Exec, getting the remote branches online (Telstra Dial Connect / Cisco 2200) and rolling out SMS 2.0. There was also the requirement to repackage the BaanERP client using SMS Installer and later on Installshield’s Windows Installer for the MSI version.

The network topology consists of 3 sites (Windsor, Benalla and Coolaroo) connected by 64K Frame Relay with a local NT domain controller at each site. Other projects include setting up MS proxy server, setting up the Intranet site using MS IIS, helping to implement the Seagate Info server for web based reporting and hiring additional resources for the IT department, mainly a programmer to build custom VB based applications and SQL developer to begin building the data warehouse.

My final project was to upgrade the network from NT 4 to Windows 2000. This consisted of designing an Active Directory tree that suited our internal group structure based on site and department that could also be integrated into the DNS namespace. We created 3 separate sites for each subnet and setup local DNS and DHCP servers. I decided to use our company’s registered Internet domain name for our internal name space and setup the DNS zones accordingly. Documenting and testing of rollout procedures in the test lab was also done to ensure the production network integrity. After completion we had all Windows 2000 Professional clients logging into Active Directory and had switched to Native Mode. Replication schedules between sites was configured and user accounts were sorted into appropriate OU’s, all roaming user profiles were configured through the Domain Group Policy in Active Directory and user KIX login scripts were carried over from the NT environment. We also configured a VPN solution for our branch PC’s connectivity.  Requirements for a DFS solution was also being carried out as was testing Win2K professional rollout using RIS and RIPrep for deployment to the remaining NT 4 desktops.

(Snr Project Manager)

The Colonial State Bank network consists of 360 Branch Sites across Australia, a head office in Melbourne and Brisbane and head offices in Ashfield, Parramatta and Martin Place, comprising a total of around 7000 users. I was brought on board to analyze their troubled SMS 1.2 installation and write a recommendation report. The decision was made to start fresh with SMS 2.0. After this, it was my responsibility to document step-by-step rollout procedures and begin implementation, including setting up of a test SMS 2.0 environment. This included hiring an additional SMS resource for the project. After 5 months we had removed SMS 1.2 from the entire network and had rolled out version 2.0 to 360 branch sites and 4 head offices, with the client installed to about 2000 NT users. Upgrading the new version 2.0 hierarchy to SMS 2.0 sp1 delayed the rollout by about 2 months. With this complete, the rollout of the Windows 95 client to the branch network could begin. (There are many issues with the “vanilla” build of SMS 2.0 and Windows 95).

TIAS own Galileo and Sabre, the airline travel agent booking infrastructure for Australia. They are responsible for many IT projects for different airlines. During my time at TIAS, I was configuring and maintaining the Netscape Enterprise servers, which hosted the online booking engines for Ansett, Qantas and Air New Zealand. These systems were not yet live when I began and my role entailed stress tests, upgrades of Netscape servers from 3.0 to 3.5 and being responsible for several NT servers running production and test subsystems for the online transaction system (CDP). By the end of this contract we had cut over the online booking engines to Ansett and Qantas. During my time at TIAS I was also responsible for day-to-day network maintenance and support. I was also responsible for the implementation of the remote access of NT servers and troubleshooting their Novell servers.
